Fibromyalgia Connection

I have Fibromyalgia and IBS.  I have read that there is a connection between these two diseases.  What is the relationship of the two?  Does one cause the other?

Also, what would you say is the impact on a person that has both at a severe level?

Interesting that the stats are so varied.  You say that they are both functional disorders?  Does that mean they don't have a dependency, nor do they cause each other, but can exist entirely independent?

Hi, though the exact cause is unknown it has been found that there is a link between fibromyalgia and IBS. Both are functional disorders. In one study, 32% of people with IBS also had fibromyalgia symptoms compared with 4% of people without IBS. Another study showed fibromyalgia occurring in 20% of people with IBS. And studies have estimated 32% to 70% of people with fibromyalgia also meet criteria for IBS. Regards.
