Frustrated to say the least for a answer to upper left quadrant pain

by Janey49, Mar 12, 2009 09:55AM
Hello;  I am a 52 yr old women, whom following a MVA has had considerable illness.  History of Bullous Disease,
Chronic Pain, Multi-Nodular Thyroid Disease, CFS, Uterine Polyps, multiple back and neck problems.  4 yrs ago
had lysis of abd. adhesions.  Had no prior abd. surgery.  It was thought adhesions were from MVA and some internal
bleeding of bowel or kidney.  Was also with IBS at that time.   I have just had a abd., pelvic CT, KUB, Upper Endoscopy, and two days ago a Colonoscopy.  This is being done as like four yrs. ago I am in pain in my upper
left quadrant radiating to my kidney and also mid abd. , sometimes pain refers down left leg.  I also have intermittent
pain in the secum region.  I have serious bloating, sometimes following eating.  I am nauseated and have not had a
normal bowel movement since December 2008.  It has been unbelievable what I have had to take to produce a bowel
movement.  My Gastro Doc. says it is IBS and said I had twisting of the Splenic Flexure and other areas of bowel. I am seeing a surgeon next week to rule out abd. adhesions returning.  I had to have a general anasethic for colonocsopy since the pain  from prior one was unbearable.  Since having the colonoscopy I don't feel well.  Pain increased at times along with bloating.  Pain radiating further in lthe back and upper back.  I feel like I have a low grade
fever but am menopausal also.  I feel weak and in total despair!  I have been prescribed Amitiza24 mcg. and  Miralax 3x a day.  The pain in the spenic flexure is severe and wonder if it could be splenic flexure syndrome.  At times I wonder if it is my kidney.  My father had ca of kidney.   I am beyond it with this.  I am not sure about IBS diagnosis as
prior since abd. adhesion removal bouts had settled down.  It almost seems like before when my bowel just shuts down.  Isn't IBS constantly a problem??  All my problems are severe constipation.  Always have had constipation.  I understand the other meds. i.e. pain meds will make this worse.  I am on a 75mcg. Duragesic patch for yrs.  I wonder
if anyone has any other thoughts.  I feel like this is impossible daily living.

thanks so much
