Hereditary

Is IBS hereditary because my mother has it and i was wondering if i was in danger??

I'm not sure, but I would tend to say no, only if for some reason you are like your mother in the sense that you are a nervous person, someone who may hold things in, maybe have had stomach problems since you were younger.  Everyone is different and I have three kids and I am the only one who suffers with my stomach.

IBS is not a hereditary condition; however, dietary or environmental links between members of a family may exist that bring on the disease. There are literally hundreds of possible causes of IBS, most of which fall into one of two categories: (1) food allergies and intolerances (2) problems with intestinal bacteria, yeast/candida, or parasites.
