I don't know what to do!!

My 9 year neice is haveing difficuties with what the doctor calls irratable bowel syndrome. She's vomitting, the whites of her eyes are starting to turn green and her abdomen is tight as a rock. She at times has a fever. The Md gave her a laxitive called magnesium citrate. I have given her a children's fleet enema and castor oil. But nothing, and I do mean nothing is making her move. Does anyone have any suggestions to help her out???

She might have Hirschsprung’s disease whicfh affects the large intestine, causing constipation. The patient lacks ganglion cells in the intestine; these cells typically promote muscle contraction to move waste through the large bowel. The disease typically occurs in children and can also cause diarrhea, anemia, or delayed development. The treatment is surgery to remove the diseased section of intestine.  

In other words, fecal matter moves along through a wave-like action of the intestine, called paristalsis.  With Hirschsprung's disease a section of the intestine is non-functioning and the fecal matter moves along until it hits this section where it stops.

In some patients, depending on where it is, they might soil their underwear repeatedly because they cannot feel the fecies leaving their body because of the stagnant area of the bowel.  

I do know of children who have had this surgery to remove the "dead" section of bowel and they go on to live merry little lives.

You might ask her physician to look into this option of looking for Hirschsprung's.
