IBS and coffee

My mom was diagnosed with IBS several years ago, and 2 years ago she was diagnosed whit colitis too. I am not convinced that she has IBS. She has several symptoms: diarrhea (no matter what she eats), constipation, mucus in her feces, abdominal pain, she has lost lot of weight (and she has Hashimoto, hypothyroidism), osteoporosis, numbness of her hands (sometimes her face, no stoke), pain in her joins, extreme cold or hotness, fatigue,  etc.
Lately she has started drinking coffee during the afternoons and she is feeling a lot better, she is not having diarrhea or constipation, nor abdominal pain. If she has IBS, isn't she suppose to do worst drinking coffee???
I have been trying to find others conditions that she might have with her symptoms, but I had not found anything that fits her profile. I am thinking that can be something related with her autoimmune system. Can someone tell me what else could it be? or, what test I should ask her doctor to do?

do you know about the eat right for your blood type diet? if your mom is type A, they say she has too little stomach acid, and coffee with soy milk is good. i think it's dr adamo. they say that acid reflux is caused by too little acid not too much. i don't understand it completely but maybe it's true.

there are two main scans i no of, (maybe more, im no doctor... :)) an ultrasound can be good to pick up things like cuts or sores or hernias on the intestines or tummy, and the other is like, well to be honest i cant think of the name of it right now, you no, its like a CAT scan machine? but for your body, not the head... you no what i mean? sorry, the word is just lost to me right now!! :( but really if you have IBS is a daily thing to watch what you eat, it never goes away, it only gets better, so maybe check everything in her diet, i once went to get a test to what food i was sensitive or allergic to, from a chinese medicine doctor, they tested me for like 300 foods and other things, i found out ALOT of things i was eating my body was actually very sensitive to, like strawberries or mushrooms, or green peppers, so i cut out all that and it was amazing how much better i felt.. maybe look into that to?

hope that helps...

Thanks!
But my mom was diagnosed almost 20 year ago, the doctors have tested almost everything. I´m not sure if the doctors made studies of her small intestine, but I know the studied her large intestine and her stomach.
Right now I ask her to stop drinking coffee again and to write down everything that she feels for two weeks. Then she is going to start drinking coffee again and write down her symptoms. We are doing this to see if the coffee is making her feel better or if it is something else.

What kind of scans can she ask her doctor to do??

Yes coffee is not good for IBS anytime i drink coffee i get terrible pains.

well its hard to test for IBS its more of a collection of different symptoms, maybe she could have an ulcer or irritated intestines or some small minor blockage or hernias? sorry to sound so bad just putting a few things out there for you to see... but to be honest there are a huge number of things that you can get in your abdomen so the only person that can answer that is your doctor, if you really wanted to be completely sure, you could always get some scans done, but they are expensive..
