Irritable Bowel Syndrome/Disease vs Birth Control effectiveness?
Hello, my g/f has described symptoms that sound like Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Irritable Bowel Disease.

She has more the constipation that the diarrhea.

Does it all matter if her colon is irritated for it to be Irritable Bowel Disease vs Syndrome?

And if she has IBD vs IBS will it make her birth control less effective due to absorption. I ask because she doesn't have diarrhea really and is a little overweight, so maybe it isn't Irritable Bowel Disease.

But is the major thing to see if her colon is irritated whether or not she has diarrhea or not?

Hi, irritable bowel syndrome is the same as irritable bowel disease. You must be referring to Inflammatory bowel disease. Inflammatory bowel diseases, are ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease, which are different from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Unlike IBD, IBS does not cause inflammation, ulcers or other damage to the bowel. Irritable bowel is a disorder, which affects the nerves and muscles of the bowel. This causes abdominal pain and irregular bowel movement. It can alter between constipation and diarrhea. Please consult a primary care physician. Depending on her symptoms, her doctor will prescribe appropriate medicines to counter the same. In some cases factors such as stress, diet and infection can trigger attacks. IBS does not decrease the efficacy of birth control pills. Regards.
