Ride side pain (but I have situs inversus totalis)

by Grigs5, Oct 30, 2009 12:21PM
For the first few days I just felt very uncomfortable in my abdominal area - was pretty sure it was just unhealthy eating and maybe gas.  I haven't been very regular lately, either. Then the pain has intensified on my right lower side, almost feels like a stitch from running but more severe.  It woke me out of sleep for the past two nights, the pain is awful in the morning as well, but then will start to slowly subside as the day goes on.  I do feel it when I breathe in though.  When the pain is at it's worse, it's hard for me to breath at all.  I went to the prompt care yesterday, they performed a CT and bloodwork and said everything was fine.  They would have thought it was my appendix, but due to the situs inversus it is ruled out.  Pain was horrible again last night and this morning. I'm wondering if it is a muscle spasm of some sort.
Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

Hello, you might want to get a colonoscopy. (its really not that bad actually.)  You will probably have to go see a gastroenterologist who specializes in the stomach/colon.

It could be a lot of things!  If your colonoscopy comes back normal and he says you have IBS (which a lot of doctors do) get a hydrogen breath test. Its said that about 70% of IBS sufferers test positive on this. Which most likely means a bacterial overgrowth in your intestine could be causing the symptoms.  I am currently taking 1 week of rifaximin, and flagyl for 10 days for this.

I've heard that CT scans on the appendix can come back normal somtimes. So if it gets really bad and excruciating and the pain suddenly goes away that could mean your appendix ruptured. I would go to the ER if that happens!
