anyone have IBS and endometriosis?

by hope08, Jan 30, 2008 07:01AM
i was just wondering....i have a slew of stomach/uterus/ovary problems and lately it has been out of control. i did run out of my bentyl, so that may have something to do with it. the thing is, for me to not be constipated and having those severe pains from the IBS, i usually take 2 bentyl a day. i was told it is just for when you get those 'flare ups'. i get those like, daily!

i don't know if it has to do with my endo, which i am sure it does....but it is so hard to talk to my gyno about the endo, he could care less. but i am pretty sure both conditions are effecting the other, causing me more pain then i need to be in!!!

any advice would be great :)

Hi hope,

I have both IBS and Endo as well. I guess you could say I am in the same boat as you are - I have A LOT of stomach pain - it could be from the Endo and it could be from the IBS. I have IBS-D. I see from reading your post that you have IBS-C.

I can't believe your gyno doctor won't listen to you. You need to get another gyno that will listen.

Okay, having been given the run-around for almost two years by GPs, I am starting to make some connections with my IBS symptoms. They are MUCH more severe before and during my menstrual cycle, which is very irregular but NOT painful. I experience severe gas and bloating pre and during mentstruation. Last night (the tail end of my period), almost immediately after eating, my stomach started rumbling so badly I got scared. I could hear and feel it violently spasming from top to bottom, like I might have diarrhea at any moment. A Pepto-Bismol alleviated much of the spasming, but I'm terrified to eat right now. I pretty much never have an appetite, I experience significant bowel urgency many days (though no major diarrhea or constipation), sometimes nausea too, I'm exhausted much of the time and I've lost 12 pounds (wasn't overweight to begin with) in the past year, despite forcing myself to eat when I can. I do not know where to turn, but I know there is a gynecological/gastrointestinal link here. Which type of doctor should I pursue this matter with??! I am actually scared out of my mind that I will never be normal again and that I am slowly going to starve to death. Any advice appreciated.

I would go to a Gastro doctor if I were you. They seem to be better in the GI department.

I had a hysterectomy on February 1st and didn't have Endo, so there was actually no connection between Endo and bowel issues and periods with me, like I originally thought.

Those stomach spasms you are talking about sound like what I am going through now. I too am also afraid to eat anything at the moment.
