Mucus is your body's way of trying to lessen irritation in your digestive tract. Irritation could be from dry, hard stools as seen in constipation, it could be a reaction to something your body senses as toxic, etc. It could be from severe, unrelenting bouts of diarrhea. Just remember, mucus is produced by your body for a good reason..to protect the cell layers lining your gut.
As far as bloody mucus, I have never noticed that myself, and I've had IBS-D for 25 years. That is not 'common'..the blood part. It could be from the delicate skin in that area being irritated by bms or cleaning up after bms, it could be from irritation inside from severe constipation or hemorrhoids.
It also is something that a GI doc should check out for you. Is your Dr. a general MD or a GI specialist? What tests did you have done? What symptoms of IBS do you generally have? Sorry so many questions..just trying to get a feel for what you've been living with and how it was diagnosed.
does anyone ever answer these posts???
