is it just me?

Hi I have never done anything like this before but i need some advice.
I am a 24 year old woman and for the past 8 years i have been dealing with a pain in my upper left abdomen, it is always the same place and the pain varies daily from dull and achey, tingly and itchy, to sharp and stabbing extending from the original point right to my back and also a subsequent pain in my lower left abdomen and back.
I have been fobbed off by numerous doctors telling me I have IBS but i have never had any tests or prescriptions, or even advice they just tell me it's IBS live with it, this is actually rather upsetting.
Has anyone got any similar symptoms to put my mind at ease?
Also when i first got this pain i went from a size 16 to an 8 in a couple of months, but have since put on weight after having my son and going on the  depo injection, which i am no longer on but the weight has stuck.

Thanks for the advice I've tried going gluten free but its not helped and recently it has gotten worse, I am now in worse pain than ever and cannot eat or drink without sweating profusely, getting weepy eyes or just going to sleep, my body just shuts down :/. I have been to the docs but as usual I've been told there is nothing wrong with me as I am over weight even though I barely eat a thing. Living in a dehydrated state is now causing havok with my kidneys, I really don't know what to do its getting in the way of my day to day life I'm struggling to look after my son.

I also have the same pain in my right side and it radiates to my abdomen, under my ribs, and to my lower and middle back sometimes. After 5 years of tests with no conclusions, I tries going gluten free. After a few weeks I stopped feeling so tired and lethargic, and my abdomen pain went away completely. I've been gluten free for about 10 months and my pain started coming back a month ago and even more intense. I'm pretty sure I have IBS but I've been reading that birth control pills can cause or worsen IBS. I've been on them for 7 years and I'm going to go off them to see if that helps.

Thanks i have tried cutting out certain food stuff such as gluten, dairy, salt etc but none make any difference :/ the pain does not seem to be eased or aggravated by food or drink it is just there. I also thought stress could be a factor but and my monthly cycle but there is no pattern anywhere, just constant pain of some form :(

The pain could be caused by a spasm. The problem with a diagnosis of IBS is that the doctor does not give enough thought as to what causes it. My doctor made sensible recommendations for relieving the pain and more or less normalizing my digestion, but none to curing me. I had to do this myself. In my case I decided that there may be nothing wrong with me, but that I may be ingesting a poison. I had already ruled out an allergy.

I looked to air, water and food for the answer. I found a couple of things that contributed to the condition but hit the mother lode with gluten. I cut out all gluten and within one week the pain was gone. My condition continued to improve. It is now six months since I stopped eating gluten and each week sees yet more improvement. I never realized how ill I must have been. As a bonus, the extreme fatigue I had been experiencing for years disappeared. I had never associated the fatigue with my digestive problem.
