Abnormal Labs--what do they mean?

I had a 24 hour creatinine clearance test done and it showed 2 abnormal results: a high creatinine clearance of 145.7 (I am a 37 y.o. F) and the other was " UR PROTEIN, CALC" which was 230.4 when the reference range is <149.1.  The urine protein was <4 so what is the difference between the urine protein and the other UR PROTEIN,CALC?  and then there is marginally high, high, and way high--is 230.4 really high?  It seems like it. Help!!

I had a 24 hr urine catch done and the results came back as the creatinine clearance being high with a result of 151. Also, the total creatine was less than 1655. My lipid panel came back with the sgpt being high with a level of 73. I am having alot of kidney pain, can someone tell me what I could be looking at as a possible diagnosis? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rachelle

Hi Michelle RH,

How are you?
Creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine, which is an important part of muscle. Creatinine is removed from the body entirely by the kidneys. 24 hour creatinine clearance test  can be used as a screening test to evaluate kidney function. Results are highly dependent on your age and amount of lean body mass. Normal results may vary from lab to lab. High creatinine clearance values can be caused by strenuous exercise, muscle injury (especially crushing injuries), burns, carbon monoxide poisoning, hypothyroidism and pregnancy.
Expected creatinine clearance values (expressed as number of milliliters per minute per 1.72 meters squared of body surface)
• Adult males: 97 - 137 ml/min
• Adult females: 88 - 128 ml/min
• Pregnancy: may be as high as 150 - 200 ml/min
• Elderly: values diminish with age even if no renal disease exists, as the GRF declines about 10% per decade after age 50

Urine protein test measures the amount of proteins, such as albumin, found in a urine sample. Normal values are approximately 0 to 8 mg/dL. Yours was <4 so it is normal.

I hope this helps. Take care and regards.
