Acute Kidney Disease

by jan911, Nov 17, 2008 05:19PM
My husband has been taking lithium for 20 years and recently his creatine has started elevating. His Vitamin
D is low and PTH is elevated and calcium is elevated.  The ultrasound shows he has some damage
to his kidneys but they appear not to be skrunken.  He feels ok.  The nephrology doctor says to get
off of the lithium with a psychiatrist help immediately.  I am scared that his controled bi polar will
return.  Should we get a second opinion or proceed to the psychiatrist?  We also are not far from
Duke Hospital, should that be an option.  Thanks very much.
