Alport Syndrome

by ssurp, Apr 09, 2009 08:45PM
I have had blood in my urine since childhood now after numerous 24 hr urine discovered been spilling between 900-3000 mg of protien for aprox 6 months now.  After biopsy diagnosed with Alport Sndrome-how long can I go with spilling this much protein before it starts doing real damage to my kidneys, doctor says not to worry!  I have been on ACE inhibitor-but naturally have low blood pressure so am unable to increase meds.

Hi, I also have Alport's Syndrome. I'm pregnant and my last 24 hour urine showed I am passing over 6,000 mg of protein now. I'm not sure the exact answer to your question, but I would also like to know. I do know that if you keep on passing alot of protein, it damages your kidneys. They are very worried that I'm passing so much protein, but they say that as long as the creatinine in my blood is normal that that's what's important. Your Kidney functions must still be normal is why they may not be worrying. I see my nephrologist again tomorrow, so if I can get a better answer I will let you know.
