High Creatinine after Kidney Transplant

High Creatinine after Kidney Transplant

My dad is 62 years old and in fairly good health aside from the fact that he had Severe Kidney Disease. He has a kidney transplant 1 week ago to the day and is still hospitalized becasue he creatonin levels are back up to 4.65 and has been for the last several days. They have done all types of tests on him to see what the causes may be. They put him in Plasma Foresis but found that it wasn't necessary after they received biopsy results back. It was concluded that he is having some sort of rejection but apparently due to his T Cells (white blood cells) fighting against the kidney. They have increased his meds but since yesterday his Creatinine has only dropped from 4.69 to 4.65. My question is, is this type of thing normal after a kidney transplant? When he came out of surgery, his creatinine had dropped to the 2 levels. He is doing so well and has been since he came out of surgery. The night of the surgey he was running a temperature of approx. 102 degrees but this was a reaction to one of his medications. I am just so confused as to why this is all happening...I would truly appreciate any insight any one can share with me. I told my dad to ask his doctors if he should be on a Regular diet also. I assumed he would be on a low sodium diet and take baby steps as to trying to return to some normalcy with his food after all of this. Can diet have any effect on creatinine levels?

YES! diet has a massive impact on creatinine levels, but in your dads case i dont think diet would of caused this problem, kidney rejection is normal, its up to your renal team to diagnose and treat quick befor remainding renal function is lost, there are many recorded cases where creatinie is high just after transplatation due to time for the new organ to settle. remember your dads only got one kidney now and hell never have perfect creatinie, as hell only ever have 50 % function due to one kidney, if his creatinie comes down he should be ok to lead a normal life with one. order this book off amazon kidney failure explained or transplants by Dr Andy Stein,  or log onto www.kidney.org or in uk www.kidney.org.uk
