Ironially, as the infections were making me spend half of my year in hospital, i finally had my ileal conduit shortened, it was way too long and so not draining well. since the surgery in feb last year, my infections have dropped right off. only one very severe but contiual low grade ones. It was after this that my renal function went into deline, how ironic! remeber kidney disease is silent until well advanced, you will not likely have any symptoms. one thing I alwasy did have, which is a very early sign, is lots of blood int he wee. We always put it down to infection but even now it shows moderate to large in every test, even with no infection, so maybe they were wrong about that too!
I ad sever kidney infections for 7 years, up to 12 plus admissions every eyar, most ended in intensive care due to sepsis. the hwole time by some major miracle, apart from acute drops in kidney function, my egfr always went back to normal when the infection cleared I am multi resistant to most IV antibiotics nwo as a result, including vancomyacin which is a huge concern. I now have VRe as a result. However, even though my renal functionr remained stable through this whole period, i am now finally heading for remal failure . My egfr fell suddenly and without mercy, the miracle was over!!! i am currently in stage three CKD but as the underlying cuase of infections cannot be corrected, (no bladder so ileal conduit) pregression is guaranteed to stage 5, probalby, given average drops of 10 every couple of months (did say fast!) within 12 months. As mine did remain stable throughout, my egfr was not monitored for long and this was the end result. They do take their toll in then end, i was overly confident all was well. Please have at least 3 monthly renal function tests, even if normal keep insisting, wish I had as may have had a better chance at slowing it down with diet etc. plus many of the IV antibiotics they ahd me on were contraindicated in kideny disease, so the cure only made ifworse
Hello and hope you are doing well.
The repeated urinary tract infections could have affected the kidneys. Have a culture and sensitivity test done to find out the correct antibiotic that the infecting organism is sensitive to and taking this medication for the required amount of days may help to clear urinary tract infection. Also, am hoping Diabetes has been ruled out.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Keep pushin for every test they can give you. Not sure about what it could be but just keep fightin them for every test possible, dmsa scans to find out how well your kidneys are clearing the bad could help.
Hope u get somewhere soon with it
