IgA Nephropathy

by AlfTheAli3n, Sep 26, 2008 08:49PM
I've been told I have IgA Nephropathy.  The Doctor says 'it not a big thing' i.e it's nothing to worry about. And he says 'we'll monitor it.'

The problem for me is that I get flank/loin pain, i.e if I walk/stand too long, I get a numb area around my side and/or back.  If I cough, I get pain near my upper right rib [or not too far from it], it feels like I've been punched.
The Doctor says it has nothing to do with IgA Nephropathy.  Is he right?
Is their any type of work and/or exercise I should avoid?

I also visit the toilet to pass a stool about 4, 5, 6 or 7 times a day.  Could this be related?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have Iga as well, it isn't that bad for the most part.

My doctors liked to say that pain is not a symptom of Iga but it seems as if they do not know what they are talking about.

Whatever you do, think long and hard before you start taking prednisone, it was probably the worst decision of my life, but some people seem to find some use to it, just be careful.

Thanks.

What's 'prednisone' and why might it be bad?

I was originally diagnosed with IGA but later was found to have Henoch Schonlein purpura.   HSP involves the GI tract as well as kidneys.  It usually first appears as a rash.  I was hesitant to accept this diagnosis at first because I couldn't remember having a rash.  However, on vacation a couple of years ago, those cute little freckles I always got when in the sun turned into a classic HSP rash.  (they look like blood blisters at their worst)   Scientist are still studying the relationship between HSP and IGA.  Anyway, it is something to consider
