Is Elevated Potassium a side-effect of long-term Lithium use?

I recently had to have a blood test repeated as my Potassium level was 5.3  It went down to 5.1 on the second test and my physician said no action was taken.  I have my blood checked fairly regularly and other renal function tests were normal but at the high end.  I am bipolar and have been on Lithium (either 800 or 1000mg daily) for 18 years.  Is it possible the Potassium levels indicate impaired kidney function and should I consult my psychiatrist about coming off Lithium?
