Kidney Removal
My Dad had a kidney removed about two weeks ago. The doctors found a mass on it the size of a plum. All the test that were done showed no sign of cancer. My question is why would he be losing weight at a rapid rate? On average it has been two pounds a day. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hello and hope you are doing well.
There are many causes of mass on the kidney. Renal cyst, anatomic variations, kidney infections, hydronephrosis, kidney cancers (benign or malignant) all can cause mass on the kidney. Weight loss is a feature of any chronic disease or cancer .A detailed comprehensive evaluation can help in determining the exact cause of his symptoms. If malignancy is ruled out other conditions causing weight loss; like diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism should be considered. Do consult his doctor. Keep me posted on how he is doing.
Best luck and regards!
