Kidney Solid Mass

I had a CT Scan done, I received the impression today and I have a 2.54 x 2.34 cm solid mass of left upper/mid kidney. Is there a possibility of cancer or can a solid mass be benign?

Back pain... many UTI's... could be a kidney-stone of the staghorn variety, but I'd think they'd be able to see that and make a determination from a CT.

Very odd indeed.

PLEASE post back and let me know what it is. My curiosity is peaked!

Thanks for your reply, I'm waiting for an appointment with the specialist, I just got very scare with the unexpected news. I have back pains for years and many urinary tract infections. I hope is benign!

Is there a reason you're jumping immediately to the 'cancer' conclusion (benign or otherwise)?

Is there a possibility that it's a humongous kidney-stone?

And to answer your question... YES. Solid masses in the renal cortex can be benign. They'll have to do blood work and possibly a biopsy to say for sure what it is.
