Kidney Stone

Hi,
I have been detected with 6mm Kidney stone in the right kidney and 6 mm stone in the left uretor.I had severe back pain.Pl advise me the future course of action.

I've had two seperate bouts with large obstructing kidney stones over the last year.  I can tell you that they base whether you can pass them on your own by their size.  A stone of 7mm or larger will almost always need some type of procedure to remove it.  One that is 4-5mm has about a 50% chance and anything 3mm or smaller is considered passable over 70% of the time.  In your case I wouldn't wait too long and suffer trying to pass a stone that's 6mm in size. I seriously doubt you'll be able to pass it on our own.  Talk to your Doctor about lithotrypsy (shocking your kidney to break up the stone), or having a ureterscope done (where they go up there with a scope and break it up with a laser). Don't worry, they sedate you!  I've had both and they still weren't much fun but neither is trying to pass a huge stone thats stuck in your ureter.  Unfortuneately I'm an expert now on how they get rid of stones so let me know if I can help you further.

The procedures to break up the stones are done that same day.  Sometimes they will send you home with a stint in place (it dialates the ureters so you can pass the broken up stone more easily).  The stint obviously can cause discomfort so make sure they send you home with some medications to help with that.  Along with a narcotic, I would ask for something else for the spasms the stint will cause in your ureters. Trust me they suck!!!  They have a couple of meds that work real well for that.  They left my stints in place for about a week so don't plan on any big time activities for the week after you have the procedure and stint placed..trust me, all you'll want to do is rest and not move around a whole lot.  after the week is done, they'll either schedule you to come in and have it removed in the office (takes 2 seconds to pull it out) or they'll actually let you pull it out on your own.  LOL, yea I know, I looked at my doctor like he was crazy when he told me that.  They leave a little string hanging out of your (you know what) and tape it to your leg.  I've had it both ways were they cut the string short and have to go up and get it and have had the string thing done.  Personally it sounds bad but it's easier with the string because they can just pull it out instead of having to go up and get it.  Sorry if I've freaked you out but this is what I went through.  I still say it's better to get it over with then trying to pass a stone 6mm in size.  Trust me, you most likely will not be able to do it on your own, nor would you want to. I sure as hell didn't wait the second time I had them.  Hope this helped answer some of your questions.

Hi Doctor,
City urogram was performed .it showed left hydronephrosis and a small stone of the right kidney with left kidney cortical cyst.
After that cystoscopy/Uteroscopy/RGP was done and left hydronephrosis was detected.
follow up was done after a month and X-ray of KUB,ultrasound of KUB and urine culture was done.X-Ray showed a small opeque in the right kidney and a left Cortical Cyst.Taking 10 ml of magnesium Citrate and Potassium citrate thrice daily.Review to be done by Urologist after 4 months.

Please advise the future course of action.
