Kidney transplant and CATscan with contrast

How much danger is there for someone with a 15 year old kidney transplant to have a CATscan with contrast?
The worry is that the contrast medication can affect the transplant kidney.
What negative affects can the medication have on the long term life of the kidney.

I would talk to your transplant team prior to this test taking place. Here are the reasons why:
1) Your transplant team might have a way to do the test that might not compromise your transplanted kidney
2) Your transplant team has a vested interest in you, regardless of time passed, where they want nothing but the best for you and your kidney
3) They are the experts in what is and is not good for your kidney's health

I encourage everyone I am in contact with to keep your transplant team "in the loop" regarding your care. I have had several conversations with MDs in the kidney transplant realm that have said, "Why did they call us?" regarding other MDs and other hospitals regarding tests done and procedures completed. Sometimes you have to advocate for your body and say, "I am going to call my transplant center prior to this test to make sure that they are ok with this."

I know that I would welcome a phone call from a person stating that they wanted to make sure that the test that another hospital was doing was ok or not. What do you think?
