Nephropotosis.....Kidney

Please Vanessa, please help me with some answers....I am told that my kidney is dropping and that is referred as Nephroptosis, what causes this Nephroptosis and why does it happen. Also what is the best way to rectify this, is there any medication or it surgery.  For some time i don't have any pain , would it be a problem if am pregnate.
I must say that i only feel the pain certain times of the day not all the time, esp when am standing. This is the only syptoms (symptoms).  Thank you

Nephroptosis refers to a condition wherein the kidney "drops" or descends about 5 cm when the person is standing. This usually occurs in women. Body type seems to play a role since this usually affects slim women. This is said to be due to a problem with the thick membrane that covers or surrounds the kidney. The  perirenal fascia is a covering that envelopes the kidneys and provides stability and support to the organ.

Nephroptosis may be symptomatic. That is the more common signs and symptoms are flank pain, blood in the urine, formation of kidney stones and repeated urinary tract infections.

In your case, is this a confirmed case of nephroptosis ?

What examinations were done to establish the diagnosis?

Do you have other associated symptoms?

Thank you so much for your quick respone...
well i had been having this pains on and off for about two years now, but it wasn't severe so i normally brush it aside. I had a scan and the doctor said he didn't see anything wrong, So last month i had the scan again by a diffierent doctor, he also didn't see anything wrong so that was when he made me do an X'ray...I V U. So this is the only examination i have done. I really don't have any associated symptoms but least i forget before the X'ray i had a urine lab done and i remember he said there were traces of blood but that was because i had just come off my period a day ago. so i had another urine lab done but this time he said he said an infection and gave me i think AMOKSIKLAV--- AMOXCILLNUM 625MG. TO tell you the truth during the week that  i was taking this drug, i was really feeling the pain more than before that i had to stop , it was left with 3 dose. For the past one month i have not felt any pain whatsoever. So bascially this is what has happened. I was also disturbed if i am gonna have any problem if i am pregnant.


TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS...1. THE X'RAY SHOWED THE KIDNEY DROP WHEN AM STANDNG AND ON A DIFFERENT POSITION WHEN AM LYING DOWN.

Hi,

The most likely differential here is nephroptosis. A second opinion may help although I feel that  based on what you have posted this is likely to be a case of nephroptosis. Nephroptosis is diagnosed  based on IVU results done in both lying and standing positions which I think has been done in your case.

With regards to your pregnancy, the best person who can answer this may be your OB/GYN. At this point though I do not see nephroptosis as a contraindication to pregnancy. Although anatomic and functional changes in the body during pregnancy may also involve changes in kidney function and anatomy.

Thank you so much for your response, i will keep you updated when there is any news or changes. I must add that am a christain and believe in miracles and i believe one is gonna happen to be when the kidney is going to lie at it normal position.
