Pediatric Creatinine

by Lori0228, Oct 13, 2009 12:13PM
I have a 3 year old daughter who has been seen by a pediatric urologist. She had a left ureteral reimplantation in August of 2008 and a follow up surgery in October 2008 to repair a bladder tear. The urologist now believes that she is holding her urine, but can't do the urodynamics until next month to test the theory. Recent tests showed her serum creatinine to be at .87, followed by .8 two days later. The pediatrician put a cath in at the direction of the urologist and after 4 days, the creatinine was at .7. Now they are wanting to leave the cath in until I can be trained to do daily caths on her until some more tests can be done at the beginning of next month. We aren't comfortable with this course of treatment, and I guess what I'm looking for is one answer - does .8 to .7 show a significant enough drop in creatinine to justify the risk of cathing her every day? She has a history of UTIs and runs very high fevers (105-106) with them - I'm concerned about the risk if the urologist is wrong and she isn't holding her urine. We've seen no indications of that, and aren't convinced that's the cause.
