Renal Contusion, Gross Hematuria and Flank Pain

I was recently assaulted by my husband. Initially, I was diagnosed with several injuries. However, the day after the assault I started "spotting" and then the next moring I woke up in a pool of blood. I went straight to ER. I thought I had a UTI. The doctor stated that there was no evidence of a UTI, based off of lab work and told me I had a renal contusion due to my husband kicking me in the back.

Can you explain how this happens?

You do not deserve to be abused.  I don't know much about kidneys at all, but you are obviously smart enough to take good care of your body, do the same for your mental health.  Leave this man.  Immediately.  Get another apartment and a large dog, and set your cell phone so that you have to touch only one key to get the police and disable the tracker which is in every cell phone.  Whatever state you live in, help is available from local women's shelters.  Feel free to contact me for any help.

Hi KWBD,welcome to the Urogynecology community.

I am so sorry to hear about the trauma you have been through recently; it is a good thing you went to the ER to get checked. Blunt trauma to the back can cause renal contusion, the kidneys are only partially protected by the ribs and psoas muscle. I'm going to refer your post to the kidney forum, I believe they will be able to give you more info on what to watch for or do for treatment.

Hang in there for a bit longer and good luck, I hope things turn out ok for you.
