Renal aneurysms

by Grams1011, Jan 26, 2009 07:58PM
I had a full nephrectomy in 1993 due to a renal aneurysm in the main renal artery that ended up destroying my right kidney. Two years ago 2 renal aneurysms were found in the left kidney (I think one in each of the "poles" going in to the kidney?-not sure I am stating this correct;y). I've recently (6 months ago) started seeing a nephrologist who wants my BP at 120/70 (not there yet, still working on it). 24 hour urine test revealed about 80% function (good, right?). At the end of my last visit in September he talked about everything but monitoring the aneursyms....when I asked about that the response was "what aneurysms?". I had to remind him that was why I lost the first kidney, he then said it was sufficient to monitor through continuing to monitor renal functin. BUN and Creatnin (sp?) are in normal limits. When the first kidney "went bad" high BP was one of the major indicators (also flank pain and blood in urine-not visible to me). I don't want to take chances with this. Am I on the right track with this doctor? I have a feeling there are not a lot of doctors that have dealt with renal aneurysms, much less a patient that developed them in both kidneys. I feel right now that the only red flag I have is increased BP. With (generic name) Lisin/HCTZ 20/25 my BP is running around 125/85 to 155/95. My primary care doc increased it to this about 60 days ago ( it was 10mg with no HCTZ) after a very high reading of 168/108 and has since advised me to call the kidney doc back since it has not come down to 120/70. I'm confused, not sure what to do.
Thank you very much!
