Stage 3 Kidney Disease/High Blood Pressure/Diabetes

Hi.  My mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Kidney Disease 6 months or so ago.  She is morbidly obese and has type 2 diabetes and extremely uncontrolled high blood pressure, and a severe panic disorder.  She started a low carb/high protein diet when she was diagnosed.  She has lowered the amount of insulin she needs from 160 units a day to 60 units which is great.  But since this diet her high blood pressure has sky rocketed.  We were in the ER twice last week with blood pressures greater than 200.  I think the highest was 227/115.  She had been put on a new bp med Clonodine a week or so ago in addition to her others.  The er dr after consulting with moms nephrologist added Norvasc too.  She is now on 7 meds for her BP.  Her BP seems to sky rocket in the evenings.  We are at a loss of what to do.  She is thinking of being hospitalized so they can monitor and get everything controlled in the hospital.  They gave her that option last week.  She has no appetite, and will not drink much at all.  Her labs show she is not dehydrated.  She is so scared as am I.  I want to help her figure everything out.  She is 59.  I was wondering if anyone else might be going through the same thing or has gone through this and wondered what helped you get it under control.  Diet wise she is limiting carbs for diabetes and eating high protein.  She had 3+ protein in her urine on Friday.  Please help.

fist thing is too get the doc to check diet .she should possibly be on kidney diet not the diabetic diet the 2 diets do not compliment each other.this is what happened to me i have stage3 kidney failure and type 2 diabetes. if i eat the diabetic diet my renal # go all to **** to much protein in the diabetic diet.try and get her to do some exercise .i know that can be hard but i have lost 70 lbs and am still chunky.
please make sure you Doc knows everything you try including any vitamins she may take ,because kidney patients need special vitamins. not just off the shell

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How is your Mom? I understand your concern regarding her increased blood pressure. How is her blood sugar levels?  Blood pressure control is indeed critically important in preventing further kidney deterioration in many patients with CKD. Continue medications as prescribed. If the high blood pressure persists, additional diagnostic tests and hospital admission may need to be done. It is best that you discuss the management plan with her attending physician also. Take care and do keep us posted.
