Treatment of Renal Cysts

HI
I m 64 yr old. I had done MRI last year(10.9.2011) and found that i have a small cyst about 1 cm at upper pole of right kidney and Two small cysts each measuring about 8mm seen at lower pole of left kidney. Both kidneys are otherwise normal.
Recently i am having back pain only on left side these 2 months.
I also had frequent passing of urine at night time. I have BPH.  Doctor said i m a little bit diabetic and gave me Metformin.
Should i be concerned about back pain of left side? is it associated with those renal cysts?
Please give me advice.
Thanks for ur time.
Nyein.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The pain may not be related to the cyst. Simple kidney cysts are more common as people age. An estimated 25 percent of people 40 years of age and 50 percent of people 50 years of age have simple kidney cysts.

Treatment is not needed for simple kidney cysts that do not cause any symptoms. Simple kidney cysts may be monitored with periodic ultrasounds. Simple kidney cysts that are causing symptoms or blocking the flow of blood or urine through the kidney may need to be treated using a procedure called sclerotherapy.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
