Wife still bleeding after staghorn kidney stone removal

My wife had surgery on Feb 2, 2010. She had a staghorn kidney stone that required two surgerys over 5 days. They successfully removed 80% of the stone which was said to be at least 3" and the other 20% on friday. It has now been 8 days her second surgery and she is still in great pain continues to bleed. I think they did use the sound waves to break up the stones and then removed them with a tube. The tube was removed 4 days ago and she still is bleeding. She has had 10 units of blood so far. She is in bad pain and very depressed. I am looking for the light at the end of the tunnel here, can anyone share there samilar story with me or offer any advice. Thanks!

Wow, that is a lot of blood etc. Does she have a stent in place?

Obviously if they have given her blood her doctor knows about the pain and the bleeding what have they told you?  I live with many kidneys stones but have never heard of this..
however her stone sounds quite large.  To I understand correctly it was 3 Inches in size?
That is huge.  Was the stone still in the kidney?

I have had stone surgeries, my last one they did not tell me and the hosptial records stated that the right kidney hemorrhaged.  I had bleeding for 8+ days after surgery but not to the level that I needed a blood transfusion.  My stones were different though,
my collecting ducts themselves were calcified and none were as large as your wifes.

The other issues with staghorn stones is they are often considered infectious stones.
Once blasted the bacteria are released and can cause infection.  Infection can cause bleeding as well.  You may want to consider getting a second opinion, if you feel like they are not playing it straight with you.
