Hi,

That is a good question. Stone formers as kidney donors created much debate and there are several factors to consider:

"Whether or not kidney stone formers should donate a
kidney is controversial. The American Society of
Transplantation (AST) position paper proposes
guidelines that a kidney stone former may donate a
kidney if:
• only one stone has ever formed;
• stones have been multiple, but none have formed for
>10 years and none are seen on radiograph; and
• the donor is screened for metabolic abnormalities and
is offered life-long follow-up that includes periodic
risk reassessment, medical treatment, and hydration."

You may want to check the url posted above as it contains a good discussion on kidney stone formers as kidney donors.

Hi,

You may need a baseline ultrasound of your kidneys. Your creatinine levels need to be monitored and assessed in the next 3 months. Your BUN lebels  also need to be assessed in the next 2-3 months. Discuss the high protein diet with your physician given that your BUN levels are elevated. The diet may need to be modified.A baseline glomerular filtration rate may be readily computed given your laboratory values. Ask your physician about this . I also suggest that your fasting blood sugar be taken just to rule out an underlying diabetic state.

Your ESR is elevated. This may signal an underlying inflammatory process. Have you had a urinalysis done to check for any underlying infections or to consider the possibility of a kidney stone?

Inhaling naphthalene is definitely deleterious to your health. I can not readily pinpont its side effects but this should be promptly stopped.

thanks a ton vanessa, my hb levels are low... (hereditary it could be..my aunties grand mom hv been anemic ) actually my brother has had a renal failure n is on high protein diet so eventually d whole family are taking in more protein...
my mom n dad cannot donate so i am next in line...n i want to donate.. so this whole thing is even more scary for me...GFR is difficult , itsquite an expensive test....
my creatinine  levels are low as u can see n my general physician says my reports are not suggestive of anything as yet unless further investigated.
i need to tell u something more i had d bad habit of eating raw rice uncooked rice. n sniffing napthalene balls...i know these are very bad habits ..but cant help now though i hv stopped all these do u think now dat i hv stooped all my bad habits this thing might eventually settle down to normal levels...

by d way i am not hypertensive or diabetic...

Hi,

Based on your post ,your serum protein levels appear to be in the high normal levels. In fact, your BUN creatinine ratio appears to be elevated. Athough you have mentioned that you are currently on a high protein diet which may explain most of these symptoms, I still suggest that you be further evaluated.

What was the indication for your high protein diet?

Would you know what your GFR or Glomerular Filtration Rate is ?

Are you hypertensive or diabetic? Any underlying systemic disease aside from the thyroid problem?

Discuss these results with your physician. Chronic renal failure is based on serial creatinine levels and GFR. You need to be followed closely as your lab values do suggest that kidney disease is likely.
