bilateral multicystic kidney

During my 20 week ultrasound they found cysts on one of my son's kidneys.  When he was born the ultrasound showed the cystic kidney was gone and the other kidney (originally unaffected) had a cyst on it.  My doctor has not been clear what the diagnosis for my son is.  I know with multicystic kidney disease, if its bilateral the baby usually is stillborn or has renal failure.  My doctor implied it could possibly be PKD instead.  If anyone has encountered a similar situation, I'm wondering what to expect in the future with a 6 month old son with only one large kidney containing a single cyst at birth, with stage III reflux.  Can cysts grow or multiply?  How soon would such a thing happen?  I'm wondering about what kind of outcomes I should be prepared for.  Thanks in advance for all your help!
