biliary stricture

my son who is 22 weht to hospital about a week ago because he had diareha for about 3 weeks and his skin and the whites of his eyes started turnig yellow. they tought it was his gallbladder and they was going to remove but he had jonduss after doing a few test the said it was not his galbladder but that he had a blockedge from a stone but that also can back negative now they believe he has a tumor in one the ducts close to liver they said it is a biliary stricture and they are planning on doing sugery when they get the infection out they think it might be a tumor and that it might be cancerious. we are trying to get some information on this procedure just in case its cancerious so that we can prepare ourselves for the out come the doctor did say that if it is cancer and it spread that he has a very small room for recovery and we was just wondering where to find information on this. i was also wondering if thyroid medicen could be a cause for this tumor.

Turning Jaundice has to do with the liver.  For the doctors to even think it was the GB is beyond me.  I think you should get a second opinion before your son goes under the knife.  A second opinion is always good when your talking about any type of surgery.  Did they do any testing on the liver besides blood work?  If not perhaps request a liver biopsy, it's a simple procedure.  They will take a couple of samples of your son's liver and send it too the lab.   Setting up takes longer thant he actual procedure.  Your son could have cirrhosis of the liver  ( even if he's not a drinker).  Good luck.
