blood in urine

My 10 year old son has trace amounts of blood in his urine.  We have had him tested twice in three weeks and it is still there.  He has shown signs of lethargy and irritability as well.  He was also treated with amox. for strep C.  Should I be concerned regarding the trace amounts of blood in his urine, and what should we do at this point? Thanks.

Thanks for your response.  The dr. ordered an ultrasound of his kidneys and a CBC. His Metabolic profile came back normal.  The ultrasound showed an enlarged spleen.  Still waiting on results from the CBC.  Anything else would should do, or does it sound like a case of mono.  The Dr. also ordered that test as well (we are still waiting).  Would having the mono cause the hematuria?  Thanks for your help. Hi,

Your son needs further evaluation.Trace urine in the blood or microscopic hematuria needs to be assessed. In children, a glomerular ( disease of small kidney units) disease has to be ruled out. Was his blood pressure determined? A 24 hour urine sample collection to check for the presence of protein and casts may be able to help.

If your son is currently lethargic and irritable, I suggest that you bring him to the ER. Blood tests may be needed to rule out the presence of infections .
