It  depends  on what  caused the infection.
I  had  a  kidney  infection  caused  by  E-coli   in  1995.  have  never had a    recurrence  since  (thank  goodness)

Take cranberry supplements. Get the kind that say "take 1 per day" and take at least two. They've been proven to prevent urinary tract infections.

yes its very common once you have infection ..more may happen along the way always be checked nothing more than urine test or blood tests..
