creatinine and gfr-aa

My husband is 44 with end stage congestive heart failure. The er just sent him home when his blood pressure is 70/43 and he cant talk right or walk without help or even keep himself awake. The charge nurse was mad about them discharging him and gave me all of his lab results. Troubling to me is that his creatinine is listed high at 2.45 and his gfr-aa is 35. No one has said anything to us about kidney problems though his dad is going through liver and kidney failure. Can someone help me understand what these numbers mean and give me advice as to what to do? This whole situation is really scary he is already so weak from the heart failure.

He is feeling a little bit better. The hospital took close to 20 lbs of fluid off of him after I sent him back again even though they kept telling me the lab work didnt show fluid retention.  Thank you

Hi,
How is your husband? Serum creatinine test  is done to see how well the kidneys work. A normal result is 0.7 to 1.3 mg/dL for men   but may vary slightly among different laboratories. Higher than normal levels may be due to a variety of conditions such as acute tubular necrosis, dehydration, Glomerulonephritis, urinary tract obstruction, pyelonephritis and even kidney failure.  Also, glomerular filtration rate or gfr that is below 60 may indeed suggest kidney disease. It is best that you discuss the results with your husband's attending physician or be referred to a nephrologist for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
