a nurse called me and told me i may have possible atrophic left kidney and i need to see a urologist what does atrophic left kidney mean?

Hi,

Atrophy refers to a decrease in size of a particular organ . Atrophic kidneys may be congenital or present at birth.It may also be acquired secondary to associated conditions like chronic bouts of infection which may cause scarring and loss of nephrons ( kidney units) ,may be due to a decrease in blood flow to the kidneys decreasing blood supply and nutrients to kidney tissues , radiation therapy which may cause scarring , surgeries and obstructive or structural anomalies.

Has your husband underwent any previous renal surgeries or intrumentation?

Any recurrent bouts of kidney infections?
