hey dee glad you are looking into kidney tests..
i was and still am very upset that i had a dr for 15 years that prescribed me a med for hiv that can cause kidney loss and did't tell me.
i started taking it back in 2004..i did not read about it until 2013.. when i got my labs and compared it to past labs and started asking questions..and they still said my kidney was fine! they kept me on the offending med and the GFR went from 60 to the 50's then 40's and 38!
the bastards…better docs, took me off that med. drinking lots of water and EGFR went up to low 50's while off the bad med and on sovaldi and olysio…last dose in August….so in a month i go for labs and will see if i have SVR on the HCV and if the EGFR is better again
kidney doc looked at all my records and said the loss started in 2008.. i had sonogram and it looked normal.. i had biopsy and no sign of disease. it was the meds..
between 2011 and 2014 i went to 7 doctors with this odd pain syndrome that started practically overnight..
finally one ordered a 24 hr urine test.(the docs i see now and who treated my HCV)
ask for the urine test...that is how they really pin point how much protein is in the urine.
i am hoping curing HCV will take the pain away..it is still bad and take pain strong meds but i have my energy and most of my mind back!
(the pain meds mess me up mentally it *****..never thought i would have to take them.)
i wonder if the pain is from having CKD3?
anyone with intense, pain, crying it is so bad.. muscle and tendon and joint pain with CKD ? my whole body will feel bruised from doing some housework or when i do a lot of errands..
good luck people.. ask about all the tests and make sure you do the urine test..
I don't know if this site might help, I hope so.

Hi thank you for asking this question. I just found out mine is 59 am I am looking for information
I am going to try to find my old lab work to see if this was a problem before and no one mentioned it.
I see in March it was 60, no one said anything about it.
If not for Idyllic, I would not have known to even look at it.
And the research continues :)
D
Now I know why my doctor said she might put me on medication for high blood pressure which I don't have an she vaguely refered to my kidneys....not that she said why
I finished 48 weeks of Triple on Incivek about a year and a half ago. My eGFR started messing up half way through and my Gastro did not say word one until my 6 month SVR labs. It's like they wanted me to get rid of the virus and deal with the fallout later - which is OK by me since I wanted the virus GONE.
Our circumstances are different but just wanted to mention that I take 50 mg of Spironolactone AM/PM for non hepatic-related reasons and the Nephrologist kept me on it. The times I have gone off it yielded the most profound rebound oedema ever! And I have virtually a sodium free diet..
well thanks anyway yeah quiet room here
Anyway just in my own travels of researching the pathology of the kidney I have seen this repeated time and time again:
When GFR is over 60
GFR over 90mls/min/1.73m2 is normal unless there is other evidence of kidney disease, in which case CKD is stage 1. Other evidence of kidney disease may include:
1) Proteinuria or haematuria
2) A genetic diagnosis of kidney disease (e.g. known to be have a disease such as polycystic kidney disease)
3) Evidence of structurally abnormal kidneys (e.g. reflux nephropathy, renal dysgenesis).
