high creatinine level!

I just had a reading of 1.3 creatinine. I am black male, 38. BP is 124/74. I've never been diabetic but have not checked my sugar level in the last one year. My urine output has suddenly become very low. Can someone tell me if I have CKD, and what the cause could be. And can I have low urine output so early in the disease. Thanks.

May I ask how old you are?

This sounds suspicious of CKD and given your race you are at risk.  Blacks tend to have higher creatinine levels than Whites.

Were other labs done as well?

Definitely need chemistry labs done pronto.  That would include a glucose level.  Plus, other basic labs and maybe imaging of your kidneys.

What's your diet like?  High in animal protein?  Are you drinking enough water?

Are you positive for Sickle Cell Trait?  There is a link between SCT and CKD.  This is still being investigated.

Is there a family history of CKD?

I would suggest you dialoguing with your primary physician and ask for a refer to see a Nephrologist to further investigate this.  Find a Nephrologist who is familiar with CKD and Blacks.  There is a difference with dx and treatment in regards to race.

Meanwhile, if your primary is ok with this:

Limit animal protein
No alcohol
No caffeine
Monitor your bp at home
Drink more water

Definitely follow this up.
