Hi lou510,

Having an enlarged prostate is a common occurance as a man ages - maybe even in their 40's. The enlarged prostate is what causes the difficulty in pasing urine, There are meds available, if there is no cancer present, which can help in the decrease in size of the prostate. See a urologist.

Hi,

Just a few questions:

Have you been having difficulty in passing urine?

When did this start?

Did this start abruptly or have you noted this to progress gradually?

Do you need to strain to pass urine?

A urinary tract infection, an enlarged prostate ( benign prostatic hypertrophy) and prostatitis or prostate infection may present with difficulty in passing urine. I suggest that you consult a urologist for a complete assessment. If an enlarged prostate has been ascertained then the cause for the enlargement has to be determined and managed.Oral medications are usually prescribed to alleviate the symptoms that come with an enlarged prostate.A urinalysis and culture of prostatic secetions may also be beneficial.
