kidney disease and blood pressure meds

I have been a diabetic for just over 15 years. About 3 years ago I was put on insulin, which made me gain weight. As a result my blood pressure rose and I have been in a struggle to get it under control. Norvask did a good job, but caused terrible adeema in my feet and legs, adding roughly another 25 lbs. I am currently on Lisidepril 40 mg., Coreg and Hydrazaline. Since staring the Lisidepril my creatinine levels have risen to just over 2.0

Hi  Bob,

looks  like  your  hydralazine  is  causing  adema  as  well.
Adema  makes  the kidneys  work harder.
Lisinopril   actually  helps   and  protects the kidneys,  so  many  lisinopril is  not the  culprit  to  your  creatinine  rise.

Try  to  avoid  as  much  table  salt  as  possible,  Also  when  doing your  grocery  shopping  read  labels,  so  many  foods  are  loaded  with  sodium  (yeah  that's  what  makes  them  taste  so  good).
Get  a  good  exercise  program  (apprived  by your  dr)  and  see  if you  can  get  some  weight  off,  that  will definitely  take  a  load off your  kidneys.

I  know  we  often  blame  the meds we're  taking   for  the  weight  gain,  but it's  not  so  much  the  meds  that  are  responsible  for  that,  it's  the  food  choices we  make.
Instead  of  processed  foods  try  eating  more  natural  foods  (for  snacks  fruits  and/or  veggies  are  excellent  choices).
Instead  of  potatochips,  try  lightly  salted  popcorn.

If  you  are  type  2 diabetic,  there  is  a study  about that,  that  most  type  2's  go  undiagnosed  for  a  long  time,   by the  time  they're  diagnosed  some  damage has  been  done  to  the kidneys.              Luckily  lisinopril  (and  any  drug ending in   "PRIL")  will help  slow  down   or  maybe  even  preven  any  further  damage,  provided you  keep  your  sugars  in check.

Take  care!!!
