Above information is very wrong. There is a Multicystic kidney registry. Your son will be fine. My daughter is 14 and is tough. She has other diseases but she is still tough. Her kidney is watched carefully and that is what you need to do. Some doctors will say to not play sports but heck, if you feel of a bike, you could get hurt. She does gymnastics which isn't a safe sport. Tons of people have this and don't even know it. Live life now! Be happy. he won't die on you. First of all, if all is functioning well, the worst that can happen is at 40 or 50 he may develop kidney failure, small chance, if he does, by then, it will be no big deal! Again, my daughter is a tom boy.

How are you? How is your son? Multicystic kidney disease is when large cysts develop in a kidney that hasn't developed properly, eventually causing it to stop functioning. It is usually diagnosed before the baby is born and can lead to kidney failure. The multicystic kidney (MKD) is a non-functioning kidney and its bulky mass is not causing any discomfort to some.  Doctors can manage MKD by preventing and treating infections, maintaining blood pressure, and addressing any issues that arise with surgery. However, it is still controversial for this kidney to be removed.  It is more important to repair any critical anatomic defect in the patient's other kidney. You can read more about this through this link:   http://www.ecureme.com/emyhealth/Pediatrics/Cystic_Kidney_Disease.asp

Achieving a normal life is possible with  regular follow-ups, blood pressure monitoring and prevention of  infections to the other kidney.

I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
