Have you has a 24 hour urine test done? This really measures the level of protein in your urine and would really help the doctor to determine if you need to follow up in any way. If your protein is high you may want to see a specialist. Your doctor would be able to determine if it is a problem.
Best of luck!

Heya Sandy,
My father has diabetes too, and the information he is passing on to me in no way should take away from the advise you get from your G.P.
As you know your diabetes condition could affect other organs in your body. If you are in any doubt see your G.P, and investigate.
The kidneys primary function is to maintain the fluid balance in the body and to excrete unwanted soluble chemicals. Whilst doing this the kidney conserves other important constituents circulating in the blood stream.
Healthy people do pass small amounts of protein in the urine, if an elevated level is detected this should be investigated by your G.P.
I would most certainly write any question or worry down and see my G.P to express this, before i begin to worry to much. But if you are a worrier, make the apointment sooner rather than later. I would also ask questions about your diabetes, and how this could stem problems you might experience now and in the future.
My kindest regards go to you, hope this helps
Triksy xx
