removal of 2 cysts from right kidney open surgery

During a ct scan they found 2 cysts on my right kidney. I went to the doctor and was told they were worrisome and he would like to remove them. I am having a open surgery to remove them.  What is the recovery time from this? What can I expect during the hospital stay and at home? This is being done Jan. 19th in the morning. Any info would be helpful from anyone who has had this done.

How did your surgery go? I have bilateral cysts and am having an IVP in the morning to look into them further but my uro doesn't seem keen on doing anything to remove them. I am curious how your surgery went and how you are feeling?

Open-surgery for renal cysts? I have MULTIPLE cysts on my left kidney. Some are too small to do anything about, but I had 3 that were operable. My urologist removed them laporoscopically. My urologist specializes in minimally-invasive surgery/procedures, but I would imagine that having them removed laporoscopically is preferable to open-surgery.

Ask your urologist if open-surgery can be avoided. Any kind cutting surgery has fairly long recovery time, when compared to laporoscopic procedures. I was up and about after 3-4 days. Open-surgery (actually cutting you open to gain access to your kidney) will not only be painful on the recovery-end, but is hard on your body.

There may be a reason they're suggesting open-surgery for yo (location of the cysts, size of the cysts, etc), but it's worth asking if they can remove them laporoscopically, as opposed to cutting you open stem to stern!
