started dialysis and now no production of urine

My dad started dialysis two weeks ago. His kidney failure is secondary to multiple myeloma (he found this out at the same time). Thursday the dialysis clinic took too much off of him. He was lethargic, had cramps, and some mental fog. Ever since this he has not produced urine. He had been producing urine before this. Is it possible that him not producing urine is as a result of being dialyzed too much or do you think its the disease progressing?  Thanks for any information.

I am not certain what his levels are right now. I do know that he has been able to produce some urine finally. The doctors told him that it was a normal reaction to dialysis.

It's perfectly normal for your father to have stopped making urine. It's not because he is being dialyzed too much. It's because he is being dialyzed, period.  I've had 3 kidney transplants since the age of 19 (lost them @ 16 from Strep) and am currently on dialysis waiting for #4.  The machine takes over kidney function.   And after a while, because of fluid restrictions and/or continued damage to the kidneys, what fluid one has on board is removed by the dialysis leaving nothing for the badder to take in (and let out).  I was still going after a couple of years on Peritoneal Dialysis (solution in my abdomen cycled in & out while I sleep).  It has the least restrictions regarding what & how much I eat & drink.
Anyway, 2 1/2 years after starting PD, I had to have my Parathyroid glands removed.  Could no longer urinate after the surgery.  Could before, but not after.  I think the trauma and/or the anesthesia did in what little function was left.
Trust me, there's no need for concern.  Your dad is fine.  I'm 44 and been doing this for 25 years. It's alright.
I'll be praying for you and your family.  God bless.
