toddler's kidneys

My 3 year old had very cloudy urine this morning. Called his pediatrician and was lucky enough to get him in right away.
They did a urine sample at the office and said that there was no infection but there was blood. He said that there were no white blood cells...which means that his body isn't trying to fight anything...right?
He prattled on for a bit saying it could be a cyst, something more serious, or something very serious to really worry about. He didn't say what the other things were, but I'm guessing the really serious thing is cancer...but I think there would be too many white cells...wouldn't there?
He sent him in for blood tests right away, and it will be three days before we know the results.

Is there anything else that can cause blood in the urine?
We all just went through a nasty bout of the flu, but other than that, he's a very "active/busy" little boy.
He has dark circles under his eyes, but he does have sinus problems...always congested and uses a prescription nose spray.
Are there any foods that could cause that? My mom thinks it's because he drinks too much apple and orange juice.

I have a  child with a kidney disorder and she is always getting UTI's. I am sure my daughter's reason will be different than you young child's reason.

However, unsweetened cranberry juice is great and water (lots of water). Blue berries are really good for a  child with cloudy pee. Stay away from breads, sugars and red meats.

If you want to email me feel free. My daughter has been having problems with her one kidney since about 1 year old. Good luck with your son.

Kidney problems do not develop from too much juice, otherwise there would be an epidemic of kidney disease as most kids I know drink a lot of juice. If he does end up having kidney problems he may have to limit orange juice due to its potassium content as compromised kidneys don't filter potassium easily, but that still wouldn't be a cause of the problem. And I wouldn't cut out the OJ unless the doctor tells you to as potassium is good for growing kids. Without it their electrolites get out of whack.

Best liquid for the kidneys and health is water though. If you mix 3/4 juice with 1/4 water most kids won't put up a fuss. If he notices start with just a little bit of water and slowly work up. I still water down juice because it tastes too strong to me otherwise.

If the doctor thought it was something was seriously wrong I would think he would have gotten the tests results that day.

If it gets worse or he seems to be in pain than take him to the ER at the nearest children's hospital as they can run the tests there and get results right away.(any ER can do it but kids hospital are just a better experience for little ones).

And a person can live a long healthy life with one kidney, the second one is the back up system. So even if it is a cyst on one kidney chances are the other kidney will make up the difference if need be.

Hello,

There are several autoimmune issues that can cause blood in the urine.  Also nutrition issues.  I wouldn't panic until there is a reason to.  It may just be a case of irritation.  Little ones are more prone to be symptomatic as their kidney's are so small.  BTW if he thought it was cancer, he would have sent him for an MRI
