several small stones in both kidneys...

Here is a little of my history. I'm a 29 year old male. I was diagnosed with PKD (polycystic kidney disease) at the age of 18.  Well this last week my kidney pain changed and I knew something was wrong. Couldn't get comfortable no matter what. Lots of pain. Comes in waves from my kidney to my lower abdomen even towards my bladder. Want to er where they did a CT and discovered several small stones in both kidneys and of course a ton of cysts.  He sent me to a urologist which I can't see until Next wednesday!! Sent me home with 8 50mg oxymoron and told me to take 6 a day...so basically I have a day and a half of pain meds which isn't touching this pain. My big question is that none of these stones are currently trying to pass according to him but my pain and discomfort is intolerable. Is it normal for stones stuck in the kidney to cause so much pain?? Could the fact that I have pkd be making the pain from these stones worse...I guess I'll be headed back to er if pain doesn't let up before I run out of the few pills I have until I see my urologist. Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks so much for your response. I have pain daily from pkd but this pain is different. They treated me like a drug seeker at the er until my Ct results came back. I laid in a bed for 3 hours with no relief. Our health system has really taken a crap. I have 2 pain pills left and I'm in a lot of pain. My only option at this point is to return to ER with urology appointment in hand and go back through it again. Hopefully this doc will understand that small stones or not I'm hurting and can't get comfortable. I will check out MSK. It's nice to know I'm not alone and doctors who doubt small kidney stones and their ability to cause severe pain should be ashamed.

We have an MSK Medullary Sponge Kidney community at MedHelp .. here is the link:  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Medullary-Sponge-Kidney-Disease-MSK-/show/256

When I read your original post MSK came to mind .. and yes, even when not obstructing or passing stones can hurt contrary to what many docs tell us

Here's a post that may help

I started making many small kidney stones a few years back and most of mine don't pass. They finally went in my kidneys and got them out. Once they were out, I was pain free and back to normal. That lasted about 6 months and they formed again. I will be having surgery again in a couple weeks. Some doctors are still in the old way of thinking that if the stones aren't blocking or moving down the tube, they you shouldn't be in any pain which is a big fat lie. I know how I felt once those devils were out. Luckily I have a new doc who knows the truth and he also mentioned Medullary Sponge Kidney Disease. Not sure if I have it but he said I have all of the symptoms. Google the MSK and make notes and talk with your doctor about that. Good luck and drink drink drink...flood those jokers..sometimes it actually works. I am sorry you are going through this. It ***** but stick to your guns. You know how you feel.
