Can someone get bariatric surgery with IBS?

by tpinkham, Dec 27, 2008 10:03PM
Hi everyone!  I am about to turn 40 in a few weeks and weigh over 300 pounds at 5'2''.  (you do the math)  I am super morbid obese according to the chart at the doctor's office.  I have IBS (irriatable bowel sydrome) among other issues and wonder if that will affect the outcome when I find a bariatric surgeon.  Which leads me to my next question.  Does anyone know of a good Bariatric center in Central Illinois?

I am interested in the same issue (IBS) and the affect on success of bariatric surgery w/o complications.  I am Type 2 diabetic (brought on by overweight and under-exercised).

My main concern with regard to bariatric surgery is the possibility of exacerbation of IBS symptoms.

Hi,

if you have IBS, you might want to consider that you could have celiac.  Give yourself a trial of gluten free diet.  It may help....

Just an idea.
