Help me decide

Lately, I have been considering lap band surgery. I am 55 years old and in menopause. I am 5'1". Since adolescence, I have been miserable because of my weight. I have tried everything, and I exercise, however, irregularly. I hate the way I look. I also suffer from depression and a personality disorder. At work, I function on a very high level, as I am a dedicated teacher. I binge eat. I don't like food too much. I like sweets, pizza, and a glass of wine every night. During the day, I eat breakfast carbs and fruits for lunch. I also suffer from spastic colon and diverticulosis. I've been considering this surgery lately, because I am so unhappy. My BMI is 32. I wear a size 16, and I'm beginning to bust out of that size. My problem is in the evening, as I love to pick, pick, pick.

Please advise.

I am desperate.

first thing if you are on anti depressants make sure you are not on any weight gaining ones.  I have been on so many weight gaining a/d that I was stunned there were so many and one in particular in my opinion should be banned in every country.  Have you talked to your therapist about your weight/food issues - there has to be a reason for of your relationship with food.  Go and see the surgeons and see what options they can offer you for weight loss and remember it is a life time change so pizza is out and sweets and wine are out because they are empty calories.  Good luck.
