I need out - big mistake, for me...

I am going to blow your mind, or maybe not. I am a grown man, 45, and I am not putting this on anyone else, but myself. I am 6' tall and 276 pounds with high blood pressure. I felt a moment or 2 of low self-esteem thus leading me on a quick quest for a way to loosen my belt. In this quest, as always, my wife was 100 % behind me with whatever decision I made. The lap band was done by both my brother in law and sister in law 2 years ago and they did well. They have learned to cheat but when they feel like they need to drop some weight they tighten the band. Well, as a state police officer I have great insurance except they require nothing to get the lap band. 3 weeks from when it was a thought it was in! Now I am going crazy... I knew day one out I made a mistake, for me, but have been trying to work through it. I was not crazy big, 35 BMI, and it was right after Christmas so I had eaten a lot. I have contacted the Dr. and he seemed very surprised and started to try to make me feel I was doing the wrong thing by getting it removed. I am so screwed up that I don't even want to go to work. My family is now telling me that they would never get it done and the ones that did say they deal with it as they have insurance that is not that great and might not cover the removal. I am going to get it removed unless the doctor puts up a road block. I can't live with this extreme life style change. I want my old life back. I want to be happy all the time, again... Have you looked into getting it removed? What are your thoughts?

Obviously, the surgeon that did it was very pro-lapband, as he did it when you did not even have a BMI of 35.  From your post, I'd say you probably had not seriously tried to lose weight without surgery, either.  I'd say, go and consult a doctor that is anti-lapband or at least not so pro-lapband, and see if you can't get some help.  I'll bet a doctor that is against it can come up with some good reasons to justify taking it out.  If your insurance was good enough to pay for the surgery without your meeting strict criteria, then maybe it will be good enough to pay for the reversal.  Good luck.
