This patient support community is for discussions relating to lap band surgery for weight loss, complications, finding a surgeon, whether it is right for you, nutrition, recovery, risk, and pre- and post-op issues.
Your doctor will decide if you do the full 2 weeks before and after. My surgery got scheduled pretty suddenly so I did 9 days prior. They have you do a post op appt 10-14 days after surgery and that is when they will start you on soft foods if you are ready. My dr had me do 2-4 days of soft food then to regular foods. One cup of food, 3 times a day. Protien at every meal...and the main part of the meal. No snacking. This is how they will decide if and when to do adjustments to the band. The key is to be honest with them about how much you are eating and if it keeps you satisfied. You want the best results but also don't want to suffer if it is too tight. So having an open and honest relationship with your surgeon will benefit you greatly. They are awesome and will help you through the learning process. I hope this helps...good luck.
You are very welcome. I asked tons of questions at support groups prior to surgery...but when I was going through it myself it seemed like I didn't ask nearly enough...lol. Glad that it helped.
It seems overwhelming at first and I won't lie...it was rough for the first couple days. Then it wasn't so bad. They will have you drinking a high protien shake. Each dr seems to have a preference as to which they use. For me it was either Boost high protien, Boost Glucose control, or Slimfast high protien. I shake...3 times a day. All the broth and sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles you want. All beverages must be 10 calories or less. No caffine and no carbonation.
