I didn't know what topic to put this under. I had it in the Cancer forum, but maybe they just don't answer there often..but I need answers, guidance...
I am going to post what I had in the other forum..
On April 30 '09' I posted:
Three days ago my four year old daughter was looking up and I noticed a bump sticking out from the side of her throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture. It is grapeGrape seed oil sized, pretty firm, and causes her no pain.
I took her to the doctor and they did xray and bloodwork. The nurse called me tonight and told me the bloodwork was normalNormal saline flush, but the doctor wants to see her in a week.
It is hard to read her handwriting, but I can make out two of them CBC and ESREnd-stage kidney disease Esr.
Does this mean I have nothing to worry about?

On May 1 '09' I posted:
I just got a call from the doctor who I thought was going to ease all my concerns, but didn't quite do that. Everything was normal except ESR and she wants to repeat it in a week.
Can a gerneral illness that she has yet to have symptoms of and a lump in the side of the throat cause and elevated ESR, it was 45.

If anyone has any opinions on this or anything helpful to say I would be so very grateful..even if, maybe requests I should make to the pediatrician, tests or a specialist I don't know. Should I wait to see a specialist or anyother diagnostic tests until she does the other esr next week?
my anxiety level and just plain worry is going through the roof. I just want to know it is going to be okay...
I can't believe after these five days no one said anything.
Either this "community" doesn't have enough members, or people just don't care to respond and I guess there could be other reasons.
I will wait until I can update my other thread for sure in the other forum and after that I will not be posting here anymore.
Coming here for answers, suggestions or just comfort is futile.
I thought ESR was normally higher in children to begin with, anyway, but I could be mistaken. It sounds like your daughter's doctor(s) are running tests just to be sure nothing is out of the ordinary. Lymph node swelling is very common for many different diseases--even the common cold--unless it persists beyond several weeks. Given that her CBC is normal, this doesn't sound like cancer (at least not leukemia--to rule out lymphoma, a lymph node biopsy would likely have to be done). Are her lymph nodes palpable, or hard? Does she complain of any pain or irritation with them?
I'm sorry no one responded to you really quickly...I know many of us are sick, ourselves, and if we don't know the answer to something, we tend to wait for someone more knowledgeable to post a reply. I've been less active on the forums these days because my graduate work is really increasing in intensity, and I'm still feeling sick (over a year and counting!).
How is your daughter doing? I hope she is fairing well and I will keep her in my thoughts. What were the updated results of her ESR?
I understand for those who are sick and it is no one person's responsibility to answer a post. It just seems that the people who run this place would have many people to run one designated forum...but maybe I expect to much.
You owe me no apology, but I thank you for being so considerate. I am very sorry you are sick.
Her CBC showed only that she was anemic.
There is an updated thread
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Cancer/4-year-old-lump-side-of-throat/show/939123 I don't expect any answers, but am keeping it updated for any people that end up being like me googling anything and everything to find out what is wrong, staying up all night with worry.
Hi Abeth: I am usually on here as often as possible, but have had other problems to deal with. So sorry nobody got back to you. We do have a moderator on here, but the last I heard she was very sick herself.
I hope you got an answer since your last post. The ESR is indicating an inflammation, but it could be something simple and not necessarily a serious problem.
It sounds like your doctor is checking things out pretty good. Please post to let us know how your daughter is. It is upsetting when a little one has to suffer with an illness.
I myself, get on here to try to help anyone with Leukemia. I do read the other posts, and try to help out if I can.
